| Abstract: | A compliment is a kind of linguistic communication which isessential to human being. Owing to the different cultural backgrounds, there are some differences existing in the compliments used indifferent languages. This article focuses its discussion of thedifferences between English and Chinese compliments on three aspects,that is, the linguistic form of compliments, their reponse formulas,and the topics used in the compliments. |
