The Democratization in the Middle East:A Political Economic Perspective

The economy is the key variable of the democratization. The Marxist Political Economics theory holds that economic base determines superstructure. As the transformation of the superstructure, the democratization in the Middle East is restricted by the economic base. The economic model that depends on the natural resources, slow economic growth, the resistance of the vested interest groups in the region constitute obstacles to the democratization. As long as the economic elements that undermine the democratization process can not be eliminated, the future of the democratization in the Middle East remains gloomy.
