| Abstract: | This paper illustrates the features of Afro-American literature in the three flowering periods of the 20th century .In the 1920s and 1930s the Harlem Renaissance approached dualism. In the 1940s and 1960s the ("protest novels") shifted to "self-conscious novels".In the 1970s and 1980s Afro-American literature turned to quest for personal wholeness and harmonious community. At the same time, the paper discusses the aesthetic trends of Afro-American literature combining the traditional with the modern, the indigenous with the exotic. |
