Translation of English Idioms in a Pragmatic Approach

This paper attempts to study how to overcome the cultural differences by a pragmatic approach in translation of English idioms. The paper first sets out with an overview of various English idioms and the cultural difference existing between the English and Chinese allusions followed by the necessity of application of pragmatic approach in translating, and then lists specific examples to illustrate how to make use of the pragmatic knowledge while translating. This paper will be concluded with the idea that the pragmatic approach can help achieve more accurate and lively translations.
