| Abstract: | Figures of speech are most commonly used in English literature. Figuration can make expressions more vivid and colorful. This paper demonstrates how simile, metaphor, metonymy and synecdoche are used. Each figure has its own form, uniqueness, and its own way of achieving effect. The analyses of these figures will be of help to us in enhancing not only our English knowledge, but also in our appreciation of literature. |
