| Abstract: | Idioms are the essence of each national culture. Because of the cultural differences, it is hard to achieve complete pragmatic equivalence in translation. From the perspective of pragmatics, through the analysis of the reasons leading to pragmatic failures in Chinese - English idiom translation, the paper inquires the pragmatie equivalence in idioms translation, in order to avoid pragrna - linguistic failure and socio - pragmatic failure in translation. |
