A Pragmatic Study of Cross-cultural Speech Communication

Cross cultural speech communication causes an increasing concern for both Chinese and foreign scholars. The paper discusses the differences of speech communication between Chinese and English in terms of communicative occasions, content and form. As there exist different cultural background, communicative mode and tactics, communicative barrier, misunderstanding and failure in communication between Chinese and native speakers of English, English learners should not only get a command of language essentials but also master pragmatic principles in using the target language in the course of teaching and learning.
