Ba Jin and Modern Studies of Humans

Abstract: Ba Jin's works always explore the significant issue about "how to be human. " In Random Thoughts, he goes further to set humanity as the centre of his book. With the reflection on the Cultural Revolution, he calls for human dignity and human rights, and by self--examination, he upholds that, "thinking independently" and "daring to speak out the truth" have realistic significance in avoiding another Cultural Revolution and maintaining integrity. His ideas of "strongly opposing feudalism," "being ready to sacrifice one's life for the realization of one's ideal," and "the most artistic work being one without confinement, "etc., are the scientific summary of his 100--year life experience, which makes great contribution to modern studies of humans.
