汉代有图画圣贤忠孝以示表彰纪念并教化世人的风尚,这是像赞特殊的生成条件,对其体制风格产生了重要影响。从武氏祠堂等画像赞看,像赞大都体制短小,言简意赅,以说明性文字为主,体现出像赞的辅助性功能。受像赞影响的人物赞虽还保留其形制上的特点,但由于是独立的文本形式,颂扬之旨完全借文字传达,故文体表现出鲜明的颂扬态度,这直接影响了人们对赞体功能的认识。

Being an important mode to eulogize or memorialize,figural representations about the persons of great worth were very much in fashion in the Han dynasty and had a measurable impact on the Zan of portraits.Observing the Stone Carvings of Wu's Tz'u,we could draw a conclusion that the Zan of portraits,short and concise,performs an explaining function that is auxiliary to the portraits.Affected by this,Zan as an independent writing type of the time used few words.Being unaided text,it performed an eulogizing function.And this has effects on the acquaintance of Zan.
