李林甫上台、专权和引用蕃将,都是开元天宝之际特定形势的产物。安史之乱的形成是渐变的,唐朝由盛转衰的原因也是逐渐累积的,当盛衰转变的趋势已成时,包括李林甫在内的任何个人的作用都是有限的。因此,唐玄宗相李林甫则治乱已分的传统说法,实有重新考察之必要。
