The Clean Development Mechanism:The New Mode of Utilizing Foreign Resources

The clean development mechanism is a flexible means established in the Kyoto Protocol to attain greenhouse gas emission control objectives, under which the industrialized countries can reduce their emission control cost by investing in emission reducing projects in developing countries and help the latter realize sustained development. Environment protection is an important issue confronting China in its development and has been constrained by lack of funds and technologies. The clean development mechanism will be a new mode of utilizing foreign resources to support sustained development in China, whose lower energy efficiency means great potential for the country to take advantage of it. To tap this potential, the government, research institutions and the industrial circle should make due preparations.
