The comparison and translation of Chinese and English figures of speech are very important in the study of figures of speech in the two languages.By comparison it is found out that between Chinese and English oxymoron exist many similarities and dissimilarities in structure,rhetorical functions and nature,and that their internal connections of the two contradictory elements coincide in many ways.This provides us with an important guide to approach the way to translate English oxymoron into Chinese or vice versa.Generally speaking,in translation,transference,extending,amplification and division can be employed,but they are not suitable in all cases.Different methods are to be used in different cases.
