On the Confucian Plots in the Thirteen Criminal Annals

Through the research on the thirteen Criminal Annals in the official history, this paper uncovers their implicit views of Confucian value, which are concretely shown as the four aspects: firstly, the thirteen Criminal Annals cites a great deal of the Confucian classics and sayings; secondly, the view of relying mainly on morality while punishment subsidiary goes through the whole Criminal Annals; thirdly, the thirteen Criminal Annals follows the Confucian ethical principle of loving and beloved and respecting the respectable; finally, the thirteen Criminal Annals use the Confucian value and ideal to criticize the reality and history.
