丁家立汉学思想初探

丁家立的汉学研究主要集中在孔子的儒家思想上，因为孔子的哲学思想一定程度上契合了其所信奉的新教的理性主义和现实主义。他比较了中国语言文字的优缺点，建议发展表音文字与普及白话文，并在中高等教育中使用英语教学。通过对开封犹太入的研究，他劝告西方传教士要警惕中国文化异乎寻常的同化力。从现实主义立场出发，他认为西方入应当对中国文化采取一定的妥协和宽容，把西方近代文化与中国传统文化中的某些要素结合起来，使其在中国发展繁荣。

Preliminary Research on Charles D. Tenney's Sinological Thoughts

Dr. Teaney＇s Sinological research mainly concentrated on Confucianism, which corresponds to the rationalism and realism of Protestantism in a sense. Furthermore he evaluated the merits and defects of Chinese language and suggested to develop a kind of phonetic signs and popularize colloquialism. He also suggested introducing English as the medium of teaching in the higher branches of modem learning. From the research on Jews in Kaifeng, he counseled the missionaries to guard against the prodigious assimilation of Chinese culture. According to realistic standpoint, Dr. Tenney thought that the Occidental should adopt a transigent and patient attitude to Chinese culture, and combine the modem western culture with some elements of Chinese traditional Chinese culture, in order to expand its influence in China.
