A Discussion of Political Struggle in the Liang Dynasty from the Perspective of Competition between Wang Sengbian and Chen Baxian

The final victory of Chen Baxian against Wang Sengbian in the Liang Dynasty symbolizes the rise of the strong local gentry of the south,one of the significant changes of the politics and social classes in the late Southern Dynasties.Chen's victory is attributable to not only the gradual changes of political situation at the end of the Liang Dynasty,but also Wang's military strategy influenced by the military pressure of the Northern Qi Dynasty.After the south-north situration became stable,Wang intended to adjust his military strategy,but Chen took an early step to capture Jingkou and succeeded in attacking Wang surprisingly,which put an end to their competition.
