霍克海默反对资本主义制造的道德工具主义,反对工具理性编造事实、制造虚假、滋生虚伪和所导致的人性的堕落与软弱;认为传统父系家庭结构的解体,家长权威的急剧减弱、婚姻原有功能的丧失、以及新型家庭悲剧将越来越少,将是一个不可逆转的趋势。那使得人类日益远离自身、至善、真理和正义的启蒙的神话也将破灭。因为它在道德教义上已经演变成一种煽动蛊惑的意识形态或多愁善感的哀鸣和感叹。

On M. Horkheimer's Ethic

M. Horkheimer opposed moral instrumentalism created by capitalism,combating its invention of facts,the growth of falsity and hypocrisy,as well as both the degeneration and the weakness of human nature induced by those. He contended that an irreversible trend involves the disintegration of the traditional patrilineal family,the sharp abatement of patriarchal authority,the loss of original functions of marriage and the decrease of new family tragedies as well. His claim was to destroy the enlightening myths in which human beings are increasingly far from themselves,goodness,truth and justice,for it had morally developed into either the inciting ideology or a sentimental plaint.
