With close reading of Das Prinzip Hoffnung,which is the representative work of German neo-Marxism philosopher Ernst Bloch,this essay analyzes the modern humanist foundation of Bloch's concept of hope,and his complicated relation to the philosophy of Heidegger in particular.The author argues Bloch has absorbed Heidegger's frame of thought while keeping criticizing the latter.The notion of homo spes is Bloch's contribution to Marxism as well as to western philosophy as a whole.
