再论抗战初期龙云与汪精卫的历史公案

Further Discussion on the Relationship between Long Yun and Wang Ching-wei in the Early Period of Anti-Japanese War

In December 1938, Wang Ching-wei via Kunming fled to Vietnam. During his stay in Kunming, he had a secret and short-term meeting with Long Yun, who was the chairman of Yunnan Province. Wang later betrayed the country, went over to the enemy and stepped on the road of no return. Since the sensitive identity of Wang Ching-wei in Chinese history, the conversation between them became a mystery for decades. The different opinions among the scholars were proposed around whether Long Yun was the collaborators of Wang Ching-wei. Objectively speaking, Long Yun＇s memoirs and others afterwards seem inconsistent with the facts to some extent. But the key to solving the mystery of the relationship between Long Yun and Wang Ching-wei actually requires that both the readers and authors should set the necessary prerequisites for the interpretation, such as a clear understanding of the substance of the relationship between Long and Wang, the tremendous change of Wang＇s personal image before and after he fled from Chongqing as well as the specific circumstances in 1938 during China＇s Anti- Japanese War and so on. Evidences show that Long Yun should have been informed of the purpose of Wang＇s escape. Long Yun did not want to insult Wang for his consideration of personal moral principles.The incident and its treatment relate to Long Yun＇s personality and the tripartite interests weighed among Long Yun, Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Ching-wei.
