The course of writing of , a famous Arabic collection of old fables enjoyed by all tastes , lasted several centuries . The original stories scattered in a few ancient Sanskrit books . They were collected and adapted by Persians in the sixth century , then translated into Arabic by Ibn al-Muqaffa , a distinguished Arabic prose writer in the eighth century . While translating , Ibn al-Muqaffa changed a lot and added several new stories . Through his version , the text of was finalized and gained its world-wide fame .
