社交语境下的各种英汉称谓语,往往不能按其字面意思简单理解,而必须依据语境提供的信息,揣摩其语用含义和语用功能选用恰当的称谓词语,表达称谓者的情感,传达称谓者的语气,体现交际者之间的身份,反映交际发生的特定场合,以达到称谓语在原语和目的语之间的语用等值。

The Pragmatic Functions of Terms of Address in Social Context: A Comparative Study between English and Chinese

Terms of address play a very important role in verbal communication.They show the status,identities,relationship,likes and dislikes of the participants.Some implications can be revealed through those terms without the use of particular words or sentences.However,terms of address in English and Chinese are not equivalent in the context of social interaction.They need,respectively,specific contextual information for the interpretation of their pragmatic implications and functions.That is to say that a proper translation of terms of address across the two languages should requires a good consideration of factors such as emotions,mood,social identities and contexts of the two participants.In this way,the pragmatic equivalence between the source and target languages can be achieved.
