The Intellectual Origins of Zisi's Wuxing of Renyilizhisheng

Zisi's Wuxing thought provides support for the Confucian self-cultivation and enlightenment which advocate the principles of "mind and human nature" and "the way of nature." There are three main sources of Zisi's Wuxing thought,which are as follows.First,the original five elements of nature having a broad popularity in the Warring States period provide a paradigm for the formation of Zisi's mode of thinking;Secondly,Confucius's interpretation of Hong Fan which calls for rite from the thought of "the way of nature" provides a theoretical basis for Zisi's Wuxing thought.Thirdly,Zengzi's integration of body into his thought of five elements contributes to the emergence of Zisi's Wuxing thought.Tidying up the origins of Zisi's Wuxing thought helps to further demonstrate the early Confucian lineage of Confucius,Zengzi,Zisi and Mencius.
