在21世纪的数字网络媒介语境中，用图像符号进行叙事表达渐成主导。文学文本中的图像符号的功能也在扩大，有的图像符号在文学文本中主要起装饰美化和引发读者兴趣的作用，有的图像符号的叙事功能已经无法被语言文字取代。图像符号作为文学的辅助性符号，与语言符号一同在文学文本中组织叙事，这不但影响了文学文本的形态和审美，对文学的形态、形象和意蕴也产生了重大影响。
