In the May Fourth Movement era and 1920s, the female writing on the topic of motherhood was against the feudal system in China. While praise of motherhood became the mainstream of female writing, some writers started considering the shortcomings in the maternal human nature. Their consideration not only avoided the exaltation of conceptive motherhood and enriched the images of mother, but also influenced later creations of such themes.
