摘    要:明末清初天主教首先在广东的澳门建立了基地,进而深入肇庆、韶州和广州,然后在北京播种于宫廷、传扬于全国。近代广东得风气之先,在基督教传教活动中起了特殊作用,一因广东具有优越的博采异域文化的地理位置和古老传统;其次由于岭南文化长期以来所形成的内引外联的开放性;再次,明末清初天主教传教士在广东的居留与考察,为其了解中国国情、确立文化传教和结交上层、从而获得合法传教身份的方针提供了人文环境。

The role of Guangdong in the missionary activities during the late Ming and early Qing period

Abstract:During the late Ming and Qing period the Western missionaries built their first base in Macao from which they went deeply into Zhaoqing, Shaozhou and Guangzhou in Guangdong, and then made Beijing their stronghold for the spreading of Christianity in the whole country. The fact that Guangdong was the first to be influenced by the West in modern times and played a special role in missionary activities was due to its advantageous position to absorb other cultures and its own cultural tradition of openness. It was by staying and making investigations in Guangdong that the early missionaries got to know the situation in China and finally enjoyed legal status through the policy of cultural missions and making good friends with high officials and famous scholars in China. \ \
