论双关语的翻译

双关语是一种表现力极强的修辞手段 ,因而在中英文中都得到了广泛的应用。但由于双关语具有极强的特定语言和文化色彩 ,因此其中英互译的问题一直被译界视为难点 ,围绕其可译性和译法的争论长久不休。从奈达提出的功能等值论的角度来看 ,双关语是可译的。以此理论为基础 ,涉及具体的翻译策略时可采取释义、视点转换、加注这三种主要手段

On Translation of the Pun

As a rhetoric device with strong expressing power, the pun is widely used in both Chinese and English. However, due to the pun's strong linguistic and cultural flavor, translation of the pun is regarded as a difficult task by most translators. There are heated discussions around translatability and translating methods of the pun. As far as Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory is concerned, the pun is translatable; furthermore, three major methods are adopted in translating on the base of this theory. They are: paraphrase, shift of perspective, and annotation.
