| Abstract: | The concept of linguistic institution posed in this article is meant as a generalization of the social rules which reflect the linguistic statuses of all the social groups in a community and control the linguistic relationship between them. The article discusses the nature of linguistic institution, the mechanism and process of its formation and the laws and research methods.The theoretical and practical value of the research into linguistic institution for solving realistic language problems is looked into, and the concept is also used to analyze the main content of the Chinese language development as well as the basic nature of the Chinese philological movement during the past 100 years. |
