| Abstract: | The Sound and the Fury' is a representive novel of William Faulkner's. Faulkner presents his characters and the plot of the novel by his ingenious handling of time, which is broken up in non-chronological order. This essay shows Faulkner's gifted talent and literary achievements through an analysis of the narrative time, the psychological time and the narrators' reaction to simple clock time. Faulkner's handling of time is a way to present his theme and content of the novel, which makes the novel highly effective and connotative. |
