Abstract: | In this paper the author examines the problems and opportunities of regional development in the economically mature north-eastern region of the United States. He argues that the most direct path to balanced growth is more planning. However, while the need is clear, society is quite opposed to any intervention into the market mechanism. Nonetheless the author argues, for more state and local planning in order to stimulate the market economy. |
