基督教对近代科学的兴起起过积极的作用。第一 ,基督教通过自然而认识上帝 ,把人们的注意力从内心引向外部世界 ,为近代实验科学的产生铺垫了道路 ;第二 ,基督教把哲学引入神学来为其信仰论证及辩护 ,确定了理性的地位 ,有利于哲学家、科学家按照理性探索真理 ,为近代科学思维方式的形成准备了条件 ;第三 ,基督教会兴办学校 ,创立修会 ,组织学术著作翻译等 ,为近代科学的产生奠定了文化基础。
