The Bearing of the Postcolonial Theory on Translation Studies

Investigation is made into translation studies from the postcolonial theory. The postcolonial text theory enlightens the translator on the reproduction of the worldliness of the text, and the translator and the translation are conditioned by the context of the text. In the textual criticism, the translator manifests his (or her) social significance and creativeness. Said's criticism on orientalists informs the translator of not blurring out the cultural differences. In the time of the crisis of the western culture and the rewriting of the oriental cultural identity, the translator should introduce more Chinese works into the western culture. In translating the western culture, the translator should decide which works to choose.
