An Inquiry into the Ecological Dimensions of The Grapes of Wrath

Steinbeck’s masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath,which portrays the consequences of industrial production brought to nature ecosystem and emphasizes the interdependent relationship between nature and man,is a great ecological work.Through analyzing the three main dimensions of natural ecology,social ecology and spiritual ecology with the help of the theory of eco-criticism,this paper reveals the deep ecological thinking in the work and the Steinbeck’s ecological thoughts,and points out that to return to nature and to eliminate the conflicts of interest between people are quite significant to the formation of ecological harmony.
