| 摘 要： | 民国初年袁世凯复辟帝制时,其法律顾问、美国学者古德诺写了一篇名噪一时的备忘录———《共和与君主论》。因文中有"然中国如用君主制,较共和制为宜"之语,遂被筹安会杨度等人借为己用,作为鼓吹君主立宪的主要依据,古氏因此在中国近代史上留下骂名。对于这一问题,当时就曾引起众多评论,各家褒贬不一。20世纪90年代以来,学界对这一问题开始进行学术研究并展开了广泛讨论。在此基础上对这一问题进行重新梳理和总结,有利于加深我们对这一问题的认识,同时提出几点新看法,求教于大方之家。
