Value and Significance of the Six-Dynasty Culture

This thesis probes into the status and characteristics of the Six-Dynasty Culture in Chinese traditional culture, arguing that the Culture, as a component of the Chinese heritage, is of unique value. This is mainly in terms of its freedom from the bondage of the Han-Dynasty Confucianism, its pursuit of the ideological freedom, its development of abstract thinking, its advocacy of the individuality, and its practice of the internal transcendentalism. The Six-Dynasty Culture maintains an important position in Chinese ideological history. It plays a significant role in inheriting the traditional culture before Han and Wei Dynasties, influencing the institutions of Sui and Tang Dynasties, and facilitating the South China Exploitation and cross-cultural communication. Thus it is of great significance to a larger extent to underpin the research of the Six-Dynasty Culture.
