| Abstract: | During the late Qing dynasty with radical social changes resulted from fierce conflicts and compromise of Chinese and western cultures, Zeng Guofan, a s an apologist and pioneer, was not only a loyal preserver of traditional Chines e culture but also a leader of Westernization Movement. With a forward-looking ins ight on top of the historical waves, he paved the way for a new era with his pro positions of self-reliance and new politics and thus deserved a special status i n the modern Chinese history. |
