Cultural Characteristics of Yungang Grottoes Carving Art

Due to its unique cultural and artistic value,Yungang Grottoes,the first milestone of China’s Buddhist carving art, is celebrated as one of the world cultural heritages,with its carving art characterized by a combination both of Chinese tradition and foreign culture, and of an agricultural civilization of the central plain and a nomadic one of the northern prairie. The excellent cultural elements of both Chinese and other nationalities fused,blended and refined,giving birth to a classic model of Buddhist carving art of China --- the Model of Pingcheng City,one that made great difference to that of the other districts during the North Wei Dynasty and for later generations.
