曾国荃与晚清官书局刻书

曾国荃一般被认为是个打战勇猛、贪钱爱财的武夫,其实他对于儒学、儒生和文人雅事始终抱有温情和敬意.因此,在军书旁午之时,他就有慨然捐资刻书之举；兵燹平息之后,又悯战后书籍残毁,亲躬铅椠之役,设局广刊经籍,在晚清刻书史上留下了值得书写的一页.其好学乐善,刊刻经史,都是出于弘扬儒术、传播文化的自觉,起到了嘉惠士林、振兴文教的作用.

Zeng Guo-quan and the Block Printing of Official Publishing Houses in the Late Qing Dynasty

Zeng Guo-quan is generally regarded as a warlord who was brave in fighting and greedy for money,but he was in fact an intellectual as well.He had a solid foundation in learning,and was a sensible person who paid sincere tribute to Confucianism and Confucian scholars.So he contributed money to block printing during the war,and set up official publishing houses for printing after the war.All these were done on his own initiative,and which greatly benefited scholar-officials and education.
