Stress Established Norm and Seek for Change to Pioneer a New School--On Li Shan's art

Li Shan was born in an eminent family in the region of Jianghuai and began his artistic career from sketch.At the beginning he was affected by Changzhou School,then he learned the art of painting under the tutelage of Shi Tao.Although laying stress on learning from his own master and sticking to the established norm,he learned extensively from other schools and broke through traditions.He blazed new trails and changed his style of painting with the development of times,thus formed a special one of his own.His poems were humorous and expressive,his calligraphies full of power and grandeur,his seals simple and vigorous and his paintings close to nature.He combined all these means of art to express himself.And he established a new school and exerted a significant influence on the later generations.
