Abstract: | Questions concerning the spatial distribution of the population of China are explored. It is noted that over 40 percent of the population is concentrated in the coastal southeast and that the highest density of population is found between the Yangtze and Pearl rivers. The measures taken by the government to improve population distribution are described, with particular emphasis on controls of migration to urban areas. |
