Leaving the "Family" and Leaving the "Country":On Ba Jin''''s Creative Motives in His Early Years

Ba Jin's novels can be divided into stories on the family and stories on the revolution. The former has always been very popular for a long time and is still well known to this day, but the latter had sunk into oblivion. In fact they are not contradictory. Their creative motives are related with writer's departures from the family and from the country. These two departures originated from the anger at the autocracy and darkness of the country and the family of that time. It is the common experience of most intellectuals in a society under the transformation from the traditional to the modern, but the same accusation and anger have brought about different results. This shows the difference between literature and other forms of arts.
