Figures of Speech in Virginia Woolf’ s The Death of the Moth

The Death of the Moth is one of Virginia Woolf ’ s masterpieces on the theme of life , in which Woolf vividly and deeply portrayed a little moth with strong life consciousness reflected from its fighting against death with a great deal of figures of speech , which demonstrate her adroit manipulation of rhetorical devices and unique explo-ration on the theme of the prose .Woolf and her works attract most attention of researchers both abroad and domes-tic.However, there are not much research papers on the prose .In this paper, the figures of speech in it are stud-ied , by which to contribute to a better understanding of the theme of the work and life philosophy of Virginia Woolf .
