Optimality Theory and Positions of Interrogative Words in Chinese

As a development of phonological theory,optimality theory（OT） gives a full illustration to universal and individual linguistic features through distinctive rankings of universal and variable constraints in different languages.This advantage enables it to become a universal grammatical theory,whose theoretical framework and methodology have been applied to fields other than phonology.Therefore,this paper attempts to analyze the generating process of interrogative words through OT.It can not only filter out the most excellent option in grammatical rules,but also designate other options of their grammatical deviation degree,which can not be done if only based on syntactic theory or other theories.This reflects the advantages of OT.
