20世纪上半叶香港殖民政府医疗服务的重组与扩展

在19世纪末之前,香港殖民政府医疗服务基于其统治策略和财政等因素的考虑,其服务对象主要针对殖民者,尤其是对英帝国统治至关重要的英国士兵,而占人口绝对多数的华人居民的健康则相当不受关注。进入20世纪初以来,伴随着医疗服务的重组与扩展,香港殖民政府开始超越早期殖民医疗服务的狭隘主义倾向,在医疗服务方面承担起越来越多的责任。到1941年日本占领香港之前,香港已经建立了比较完善的医疗服务网络体系,这一体系主要由医院、医局、流动医局、护理与留产院、产前检查诊所、婴儿福利中心、社会卫生中心和健康中心等医疗机构组成,其地域范围涵盖港岛中心城区、九龙半岛、新界农村以及周边岛屿等地区。
