哈代——现代主义的探索者

Thomas Hardy——A Pathfinder of Modernism

At the turn of the 20~ th century, when modernism was in embryo, Thomas Hardy was keenly aware of the characteristics of modernism and reflected them in the feelings, lexical features and structure of his works. His works focuses on the representation of the psychic ache that modern civilization brings on to man. They have a grave sense of crisis and bear strong affinity with the modernist literature. Modern themes-spiritual isolation and disillusionment, are the keynotes of Hardy' works. In addition, the idea of wasteland, the technique of stream of consciousness can also be found in his works.
