New directions in the agenda setting theory research

As an important proposition in Mass Communication empirical research area, agenda setting theory has experienced both development and crisis. While some scholars believe that it is necessary to re examine the basic nature of the agenda setting considering the proliferation of social media, the original theorists claimed that the theory still had a bright future in their latest paper. The need for orientation, network agenda setting and agenda melding are the three key directions under the new media environment.
