| Abstract: | Based on the findings of dictionary user researches and in combination with the compilation of the ELT dictionary, this paper describes the main characteristics of this kind of dictionaries, and shows the learners how to select an appropriate dictionary , how to find a new word or phrase and its meaning as quickly as possible and how to interpret information provided by the dictionary in order to help them use the dictionary more effectively. |
