On Security and Consular Protection of Chinese Citizens in Africa

With the rapid development of Sino-African relations and the increasing number of Chinese citizens in Africa in recent years, accidents among and attacks on Chinese citizens have evidently increased as well. Today China is second only to USA in the world in terms of accidents among overseas citizens. The extension of China＇s interests to more countries in the world has been going hand in hand with the increasing difficulties and Costs in the protection of the interests. What are, then, challenging the security of Chinese citizens in Africa？ What precautionary measures can the latter take to safeguard themselves？ How can the Chinese government strengthen and improve its consular protection of its overseas citizens？ Correct understanding and proper handling of such issues are Critical to the steady and healthy development of Sino-African relations.
