中西礼貌原则与“入乡随俗”原则

汉民族和英语民族对礼貌有着不同的释义,礼貌打上了文化烙印.在汉英跨文化交际活动中,应以"入乡随俗"原则指导交际双方的礼貌言行,同时依据具体不同的"文化大背景和文化小背景"适时、适地地把握"入乡随俗"的度,旨在最大程度上避免由礼貌引起的语用失误.

Chinese Principle of Politeness vs. Western Principle of Politeness and the "When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do" Principle

Politeness is a sort of culture-loaded phenomenon so the Chinese people and the English-speaking people have different understanding of being polite.Therefore, in the intercultural communications between the Chinese and the English-speaking people, people of both sides should follow the "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" Principle to behave politely. And at the same time, they must grasp the right degree according to different "General Culture Background" and "Particular Culture Background" when obeying the "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" Principle so as to avoid the pragmatic failures caused by different ways of showing politeness of them.
