COOPERATIVES HELPING RURAL CHINESE WOMEN IMPROVE LIVES

Most of the male laborers have left rural China in .search of work in urban areas in recent years. As their husbands, brothers and/or sons have migrated to cities to earn a living, the left-behind women have been forced to pick up the slack and lead the development in their villages and towns. A large number of those women, with diligence and wisdom, have formed trade cooperatives. By purchasing their raw materials and selling their goods together, and by sharing agricultural techniques and using the same standards to determine the quality of their products, the women have become a stronger force in business, and they have generated unprecedented wealth for their families and communities.
