On the Constructiveness of Cognitive Context of Understatement

This paper discusses the basis and process of construction concerning the generation of the cognitive context of understatement.Then from the perspective of cognitive context,the present paper respectively analyzes understatements which violate the cooperative principle or semantic restrictions.It is thought that cognitive context plays a dynamic pragmatic role in both the selection of grammatical constructions and the assignment of their implications in understatement.Communicators generally build up corresponding cognitive context of understatement from the perspective of subjectivity,inter-subjectivity and inter-subjectivity-and-objectivity.Finally,the paper intends to unveil the characteristics of humanity,construction,and interaction in cognitive context of understatement.
