质疑现代科学纯粹的西方文化渊源——与余英时先生商榷

余英时先生认为古希腊"毕达哥拉斯教派"开启了西方特殊的数学传统,并且认为这种传统一直被西方所秉承,从而为现代科学的兴起构建了纯粹的西方文化脉络。文章通过分析西方的文化历程可以发现,其文化内核是一种非决定性的、开放性的"二分法"思维,毕达哥拉斯教派的数学研究只是这种思维方法在文化形式上的阶段性选择,而这种思维方法通过吸纳人类历史上包括中国在内的各种文化精粹,才推动了西方现代科学的产生和发展。因此,西方现代科学作为一种文化现象,不应简单地归结为西方某种原初文化形态所决定的必然产物。而西方现代科学在中国的本土化发展,也会呈现出区别于西方的个性,中西文化将在维系差异中交互共存。
